Is this something you find yourself asking? “Why isn’t my site ranking or performing as well as I think it should be?”
The simplest way to explain an SEO Audit is this: Your website is your home; if it’s not properly constructed, you won’t know there’s holes in the roof until there’s a downpour. An SEO Audit helps to identify current issues before they become major hazards, so you can restructure and rebuild in a way that’ll set you up for organic success.
What is an SEO Audit?
As a more technical way of explaining it: An SEO audit is a set of deliverables we provide that looks at your site structure and performance. It’s the best way to find areas that are lacking proper optimization, lost opportunities that you can capitalize on, potential penalties and ranking issues, structural problems that can be restricting your performance, and technical items that have been overlooked or are causing issues.

Questions About SEO Audits (FAQ)
We have a tendency to receive a lot of the same questions about SEO audits, so we’ll address some of them below. As always, if you have more questions, shoot us a note!
How long does an SEO Audit Take?
An SEO audit typically takes up to 30 business days. During that time, the team will be communicating with you as we work through data.
What’s Involved in an SEO Audit?
This truly varies depending on the site, but once we start working together, we’ll discuss any issues your experiencing or concerns you want us to assess. Once we have access to Google Search Console and your analytics platform, we’ll start the process of crawling your site, sifting through analytics data, ranking data and looking at the keyword landscape. This will allow us to drill down and identify the areas which need improvement for on-page, off-site, technical and content, and pull them into easy to digest documents.
What SEO Deliverables Will I Get?
Our packages are totally custom, as every site and industry is different. After we have an exploration call to understand more about your needs and challenges, we’ll be able to better assess the areas of focus for an audit. In a typical SEO audit, we look at a number of items ranging from:
Keyword Research: Spreadsheet deliverable with relevant keyword buckets to help you not only optimize, but find content and copy opportunities.
Technical Items such as canonical implementation, indexing and crawling issues, response codes, sitemap implementation, site speed.
On-page/on-site items, like HTML titles, meta descriptions, keyword integration and topical clarity for core pages, headings, duplicate content, internal linking flow.
Off-page for backlink ratios, keyword ratios, ranking issues, and so on.
The above are a few items to give you a general idea, but each SEO audit is custom tailored.
Is Your Audit Just a Tool Report?
Pfffft. Nah. Tools are used to help us pull data and organize it, but all recommendations and conclusions come from us reviewing and analyzing the data ourselves. For every issue or opportunity that we find, we provide a specific recommendation(s) or course of action.
What Does an Audit Cost?
It varies. We’ll be able to better assess this after an exploration call.
Will This Include SEO Strategy?
We don’t include strategy with audits, because then it wouldn’t be an audit 😉 We do, however, LOVE strategy work and offer SEO strategy as a separate service that you can couple in with the audit.
Can You Implement the SEO Recommendations?
With the variety of servers, platforms and coding languages, we find that having your team implement the changes is the most efficient, and also allows them to understand the reasoning and best practices behind these recommendations.
This also sets the team up for success with future changes they may need to implement. We make sure that when we hand off the work, the team members on your side are able to work directly from our deliverables, and we have many years of experience working directly with dev teams to turn SEO recommendations into a language that makes sense for developers.
There are some exceptions that we can assist with for an additional cost, if your team doesn’t have the bandwidth, such as providing full HTML titles and descriptions. Shoot us a note if you have questions! Our email is always open to chat if you’d like more info on how we may work with your development teams.
